We Are OOMPH!
Every Nonprofit Needs Some OOMPH!

Because we know the dirty little secret is that NONPROFITS ARE HARDER TO RUN THAN FOR-PROFIT BUSINESSES.

Who says that?

Business guru Jim Collins, author of Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap…And Others Don’t, Aaron Hurst, author of The Purpose Economy, and numerous nonprofit experts.

Here are a few reasons:

The double bottom line. Nonprofits must fulfill two goals—their missions and financial sustainability.
HR challenges. Average pay is lower for often more complex job responsibilities.
Administration complexity. leadership in nonprofits often relies on legislative decision-making and must use persuasion, political currency, and shared interests to create conditions for the right decisions to be made.
Board awareness. The skillset that made board members successful in the business, legal, medical, accounting, and other sectors don’t readily apply to running a nonprofit.
Money. Expertise is needed for the numerous and complex revenue streams that support nonprofits. And often, funds are restricted for a specific use.
Consequences. Sometimes the consequences are life and death.

There are numerous other reasons, but here’s how Catherine (Katie) Chapman, CFRE
Philanthropic/Charitable Consultant sums it up, “Managing a nonprofit provides all of the same risks that starting and managing a business does with additional challenges related to revenue, human relations, and maintaining a dual focus in all operations. Helping other people requires significantly more intelligence and commitment than just a ‘good heart’ and an ability to create a profit.”

Oomph understands what you’re up against and helps you navigate your own unique real-life challenges of shifting nonprofit paradigms and unsecure funding sources.
